Recap of week 1 ABHL

Post  johnlu on Mon Mar 14, 2011 12:50 am

The much anticipated Asian Ball Hockey League officially dropped the puck March 12, 2011 at 9am. First three teams out of the gates included Cash Only, Chain Gang and Shockers. Chain Gang showed just how strong their drafting was by winning 2 games Saturday morning. This included victories over Cash Only and Shockers with strong defensive play winning 6-2 and 6-3 respectively. Chain gang establishes 1st place in the league with a remarkable 12GF and 5GA. Cash Only was able to end the day off with a 1-1 record beating Shockers 6-3. This rivalry match up was well fought and in the end Cash Only cashed in with a win and outlasted the tired Shockers. Shockers weren't full strength as they were missing their starting goaltender & other players.

The second half of game day included match ups between Rooster, Slammer Hammer Jammer Bammers and Flying Tigers. Roosters established themselves in the league as a strong physical team which won both back to back games by scores of 6-4 and 5-4. Rooster played a well rounded team game with the highest paid player to the lowest paid player all chipping in on the score sheet. SHJB was able to salvage a win Saturday morning without 2 of their top 4 picks of the 2011 ABHL Draft by beating Flying Tigers 7-6 in a high scoring match up. Flying Tigers unfortunately dropped to 0-2 losing by 1 goal in both contests.

Week 2 games are scheduled for March 26. The biggest questions for March 26 is whether Chain Gang can maintain 1st place without leading scorer Felix Wong. Will Rooster continue to climb with their strong team play? Will the debut of 2 key players for SHJB help them climb in the standings? How about Cash only, can Ryan Ho and Gary Wong continue to carry their team while William Chan remains MIA? Can the Shockers and Flying Tigers bounce back from a winless first week? All questions will be answered 2 weeks from now when the ABHL plays goes into the second week of their deep schedule.

Steve Wong - Dislocated shoulder - day to day
